BIAZA and EAZA
Woodside is proud to be a member of both BIAZA (British & Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums) and EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums). Woodside chooses to adhere to much higher levels of inspection with regards to everything we do here at the park.
Membership to both of these professional organizations is voluntary. This ensures Woodside always delivers the absolute highest standard of care, training, breeding, diet and hygiene for all the species we home, together with the highest level of education experience for our visitors. As members of both these organizations, this ensures Woodside remains at the forefront of successful and responsible breeding of some of the world’s most rare and endangered species.
BIAZA
BIAZA (British & Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums) is the professional body representing the best zoos and aquariums in Britain and Ireland. There are over 100 zoo and aquarium members who pride themselves on delivering excellent animal welfare, education and conservation work throughout Britain. EAZA
Woodside are currently Lincolnshire’s only member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums), who co-ordinate breeding programs and the allocation of individuals throughout their network. EAZA ensures the future of the world’s most vulnerable species are secured by:
- Providing funding and manpower to in-situ conservation projects, aimed at protecting animal populations and their habitats.
- Maintaining viable populations of animals in captivity to ensure their survival over the long term.
- Encouraging members to educate visitors about their animals and habitats, and ensuring members have the knowledge to ensure the animals in their care have everything they need to live sustainably.
- Researching all aspects of animal biology to improve our understanding of animals and how they live and interact.
EAZA ensures its member zoos and aquariums achieve and maintain the highest standards of care and breeding for the species they keep, encouraging members to help their visitors learn about and contribute to global biodiversity conservation goals.
